IN PRODUCTION: “LETTERS FROM LONG BINH”
In the fall of 1968, a 26-year old Army Captain finds himself halfway across the world in Vietnam. From Long Binh Post, Captain Bruce Stern maintains relationships with his friends and family as well as maintaining a sense of normalcy in a turbulent time. Through dozens of talking letters and hundreds of written correspondences and photographs, we hear and read and see voices and people frozen in time for over 4 decades.
“Letters from Long Binh” is a film that brings back a time long since past, but not forgotten. The cast of characters who help us see and hear the entire picture include his parents, friends and the living documents - the talking letters. These reel-to-reel tapes and the voices that emerge are as fresh and crisp as the day they were recorded - 40 years ago. Click on “PHOTOGRAPHY” to see images from the 2 weeks I spent in Vietnam retracing his steps.
“Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.”
